Chiayi Traditional Orchestra
Chiayi Traditional Orchestra (CTO) was founded in 2016 with the mission of cultivating Chinese orchestral music in Chiayi and enhancing its accessibility. The orchestra integrates local cultural development, promotes intergenerational inclusion, and contributes to regional revitalization, thereby broadening the definition of "Chinese music" through innovative cross-disciplinary programs. From 2018 to 2024, it was recognized as a "Chiayi County Outstanding Performing Arts Group" and was based at the Chiayi Performing Arts Center and the Chiayi Cultural and Creative Industries Park. In 2025, it received the prestigious honor of being named a "Taiwan Top Performing Arts Group" by the National Culture and Arts Foundation.
Originating in Chiayi, the orchestra aims to share the unique sounds of Chiayi to music enthusiasts. It has invited renowned conductors to provide guidance and create performance opportunities for talented young musicians in southern Taiwan. Signature programs include "The Two Ends of the Time Tunnel" series, "Streaming Formosa" which connects Taiwan’s diverse cultural landscapes, "The Chai-Chai's Journey" musical family concert series, "The Dazzling Elders" intergenerational music concerts, the immersive tea-tasting concert "The Dialogue Between Tea and Sound", and the atmospheric "Waterside" concert.
Since 2022, the orchestra has organized large-scale arts festivals, including the "Chiayi Traditional Music Festival", "Chiayi Ethnic Music Festival", and the "Dapu Arts Festival", incorporating not only musical performances but also theater, dance, multimedia, and other cross-disciplinary artistic elements. These initiatives continue to offer audiences innovative listening experiences while promoting the sustainable development of traditional orchestral music in Chiayi.
